Godfred Asare (Old Soldier)

“Old Soldier”, officially born Godfred Asare in the Eastern Region is a very passionate, affable, fair minded outgoing person who loves to do his work with passion, diligence and professionalism. His strength is his ability to research and bring good old but neglected tunes to his listeners, interviewing skills and product marketing. He is also passionate about sharing the word of God and also bringing to the fore issues that seem not to have caught the attention of authorities, especially on our roads.

After his secondary education at the St. Peter’s Sec. School at Nkwatia-Kwahu, he joined a spinning group; “Razkwe Sounds” based in Fadama in Accra while still working with a tile importing company as a stock manager. It was while working with this company that he met Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, Chairman of the Despite Group who was his customer and after expressing the desire to be in radio he gracefully accepted to help him achieve his childhood dream.

He finally joined Peace fm in May 2000 as a trainee on the night shift and was officially confirmed in 2002. He has since risen through the ranks to host programs like the “Sunday Omotuo Special”, Weekend Jive on Saturday afternoons, dawn broadcast and has occasionally sat in as a Drive Time Host on Peace and Okay Fm.

He’s currently the host for the lunch time program, “Lunch On Peace”, the Saturday evening program, “Peace Party Mix” and Okay Fm’s Sunday morning Gospel Show.

Old Soldier holds a Diploma in Hardware and Networking Engineering from the IPMC College of Technology and has also been recognized as a Microsoft Certified Member after completing his Microsoft requirement in 2008.

Old Soldier has had nominations as the Best Radio DJ Of The Year in both the Radio and Television Personality(RTP) and Ghana DJ(GDJ) Awards but lost out to other nominees. He’s a force to reckon with when it comes to modern day radio and is famous within both the young and old.

He is proud to have trained some few presenters who are making it big elsewhere and is always of the belief that there’s no need to rush as God’s set time shall surely come to pass.
